Today, Saleh Al-Jafrawi was assassinated by militias armed by Israel in the heart of Gaza. Just a few hours ago, we spoke on our website about the fascism beginning to emerge in Quebec, discrediting pro-Palestinian demonstrations, questioning the right to protest, and disconnecting our society from what is happening thousands of kilometers away. But in the face of this journalist’s death, known and loved by millions who feel Gaza as their own, we cannot remain silent: we must speak more clearly, with more force, with more truth.

We take to the streets of Quebec and the world with the Palestinian flag held high, not as an empty political gesture, but for humanity. For the humanity of those who live and suffer, here and there. Those who criticize our protests for the inconvenience they cause exercise their right from the purest egoism. We, on the other hand, exercise our right to rebel against complicit governments: the Quebecois and Canadian governments, which deny refuge and healthcare to Gaza’s refugees, maintain trade agreements with a state that bombs civilians, and guarantee impunity to those who commit war crimes.

It is not us who bring the genocide to our streets; it is them, those who govern, who finance, arm, protect, and normalize barbarity. We only carry the truth, the blood, and the tears of Gaza to Montreal. And we do it from memory, from a heart that does not forget, from eyes that have seen the world with complicity and humanity.

These demonstrations are a cry for those who burn under the bombs, for those who have lost everything yet contain their pain. For those who could set our streets on fire with their fury—and do not. In a city that prides itself on peace, we cannot ignore that this peace is a privilege for a few; that the injustice that hurts Gaza also hurts Montreal.

And today, in the face of Saleh Al-Jafrawi’s assassination, we are confronted with the silence of Quebec and Canadian media. Silence that seeks to trivialize death, to convince us that what happens is “very far away,” while thousands in this city feel the tragedy as their own. That silence is not neutral: it is complicit. It is the indifference that fuels horror, that turns pain into forgettable news, that normalizes violence in the name of “normality.”

We will not be silent. We will not stop. We will escalate our actions so that, even uncomfortably, our suffering becomes visible. To make it clear that reality cannot be hidden, neither in Gaza nor in Montreal. Because hidden injustice repeats itself. And because the world must know that there are those who, even from a distance, do not yield to horror: we rise, we shout, and we resist, with humanity as our banner. And yes, we know that just as they kill in Gaza, they could kill in Montreal, because those who do not protest but feel threatened by our demonstrations are often the executive arms of sociological fascism—the ones who preach order and punishment, and who today point their finger at us.
