We are living through a critical moment in which a new normal is being imposed on us: the trivialization of horror. This situation not only destroys the Palestinian people while our societies remain indifferent in their routines, but also paves the way for similar atrocities to be repeated against any of us in the future, with disturbing ease.

The weakness of international law, the impunity of the great powers, the constant stigmatization of minorities in our societies, and the manipulation of the media — which, far from serving the public good, has become the loudspeaker of this dehumanizing “normality” — are eroding our collective empathy and numbing our capacity to react.

From Palestine Vivra, as we already stated at the press conference held on Parliament Hill, we call for civil disobedience in this new era. We refuse to accept as “normal” that more than 600,000 murders carry no consequence for the perpetrators. We refuse to accept as “normal” that protest must be confined to channels that render it invisible and irrelevant, when its reasons concern society as a whole.

We are convinced that real change does not come from power groups or the interests of elites — which history has always shown to be opposed to the common good — but from organized, courageous social momentum.

That is why, without fear, without breaking anything, without harming anyone, but by taking to the streets and creating disruption peacefully, we declare that the time to act is now.
