On Sunday, September 21, a Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) officer shot and killed 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi in Longueuil. This tragedy has deeply shaken and outraged many communities, as Nooran is the youngest victim of police murder in modern Quebec history. This story is not an isolated one—it is part of a long and ongoing pattern of police killings that continue with complete impunity and without any attempt at justice.

For many, the murder of young Nooran has reopened the deep wounds left by the killing of Freddy Villanueva, who was shot by police in 2008 at just 18 years old. The cycle repeats itself: law enforcement continues to kill young men without facing any criminal charges, protected by political leaders, the media, and state and police institutions—including the so-called “independent” Bureau of Investigations, which in reality functions as a bureau where police investigate police.

Every time communities rise up or express outrage in the face of such violence, they are met with heavy repression simply for demanding justice. We are fed up with these abuses carried out in total impunity!

It is time to reject the status quo and all attempts to silence our outrage and our anger. Neither police threats, media censorship, nor the empty promises of politicians will stop us from gathering and demanding another world—a world without police abuse and impunity.

We call on everyone who fears for the safety of their children and friends to come together to express their outrage and denounce police abuse and violence. Solidarity, mutual aid, and collective power will be the driving force for real change.
