Palestine Vivra expresses its deep condemnation of the serious military escalation unfolding in the Middle East, which now places Iran at the center of a new regional confrontation.

We maintain that what is happening cannot be understood as an isolated episode. The current offensive against Iran is inseparable from the climate of impunity that consolidated after more than two years of devastation in the Gaza Strip. The systematic destruction, the collective punishment inflicted on the Palestinian civilian population, and the absence of effective mechanisms to halt those actions sent a clear message to the world: international law can be ignored when major powers and their allies choose to do so.

The lack of political and legal consequences for what occurred in Gaza has severely eroded the fundamental principles of the international order. When violations of humanitarian law go unchecked, the idea that force replaces law becomes normalized. It is within this climate of impunity that the current offensive against Iran must be understood — a sovereign state with a millennia-old history and a key role in regional balance.

Historical experiences in Vietnam, Chile, Iraq, Yemen, Nicaragua, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Libya, and many other countries demonstrate that military interventions do not bring democracy or lasting stability, but rather social fragmentation, human suffering, and prolonged cycles of violence.

Today, the world faces a clear choice: accept impunity as the norm for the powerful, or reaffirm that international law must apply without exception. If the international community chooses the latter, it must activate all mechanisms available within the United Nations framework — including those foreseen by the General Assembly in situations where the Security Council is blocked — to restrain those who violate international legality.

We express our solidarity with the people of Iran and our respect for their institutions and the system of governance established by their society.
We reaffirm respect for the principle of state sovereignty and for the right of peoples to determine their own destiny without external interference.
We denounce the normalization of preventive war and unilateral use of force as political practice — a contemporary form of colonialism that undermines international coexistence.

We call upon the Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada not to participate, directly or indirectly, in this escalation, and to reject any political, military, or diplomatic support for actions that deepen the conflict. Canada must not align itself with dynamics that intensify global instability and could have unpredictable consequences for national and international security.

In this context, political leadership requires courage and autonomy. Prime Minister Mark Carney has the historic responsibility to position Canada on the side of international law rather than on the side of military bloc politics. He has acknowledged in international forums that the so-called rules-based order often functions as a fiction sustained by double standards. Now is the moment to demonstrate consistency between that diagnosis and political action.

Recent examples in the Western world show that another position is possible. The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Castejón, has adopted positions aimed at distancing himself from military escalation and defending a diplomatic and political path over direct confrontation. Beyond ideological differences, his stance demonstrates that states can exercise political sovereignty without automatically submitting to the logic of war.

History will judge not only those who launch missiles, but also those who remain silent in the face of these injustices — injustices that translate into civilian lives shattered under bombs manufactured, financed, or legitimized from our own territories.

We reaffirm that peace is not built through bombardment nor through the forced imposition of political models. It is built through justice, ethical coherence, and effective respect for international law and the plurality of peoples.
