Hôtel-Motel and Usine C are joining forces to present a benefit reading of L’affiche (The Poster) by Philippe Ducros on Monday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Usine C.

All ticket proceeds will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Written between 2004 and 2009, this play documents the impact of the military occupation of the Palestinian territories—on both sides of the wall. L’affiche gives voice to the unspeakable by portraying the unbearable violence of an impossible daily life. It puts faces to broken voices, to small acts of resistance, and to hopes that the occupation relentlessly tests.

“We are organizing a reading of L’affiche as a response to the feeling of helplessness in the face of the genocide in Gaza and the West Bank (as officially designated today by a UN commission), and its repercussions extending to Lebanon, Syria, Iran—everywhere, really,”
says Philippe Ducros, author of L’affiche and artistic director of Hôtel-Motel.
“And because L’affiche ends with a call for dialogue—to make the bloodshed stop. The occupation must end.”

Initiated by Philippe Ducros and Isabelle Vincent, this public reading is intended as a spontaneous act of solidarity, featuring members of the original cast along with new participants: François Bernier, Karim Bourara, Sylvie De Morais-Nogueira, Justin Laramée, Marie-Laurence Moreau, Mireille Naggar, Étienne Pilon, Richard Thériault,and Isabelle Vincent.

The reading will be followed by a discussion with anthropologist and author Yara El-Ghadban, feminist activist Zahia El-Masri, and political science professor Marie-Joëlle Zahar.
